Grand Theft Auto VI now has a firm launch date. Rockstar Games says the highly anticipated next entry in its open-world series will release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
That date is considerably later than the fall 2025 window discussed when this article was originally published. The schedule changed twice after Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games' parent company, publicly reiterated in February 2025 that GTA VI was expected during fall 2025.
GTA VI release date: November 19, 2026
In its February 2025 earnings announcement, Take-Two still listed Grand Theft Auto VI for fall 2025. That was the release window behind much of the reporting and speculation at the time.
The timeline subsequently changed. On May 2, 2025, Rockstar announced that the game had been delayed to May 26, 2026, saying the development team needed additional time to deliver the level of quality it was aiming for.
A second delay followed on November 6, 2025. Rockstar then set the current release date for Thursday, November 19, 2026, explaining that the extra months would be used to further polish the game.
As of September 2026, that November date continues to be used across Rockstar's official GTA VI website, pre-order materials and Take-Two's investor communications.
Which platforms will GTA VI launch on?
Grand Theft Auto VI is officially confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The earlier version of this article incorrectly referred to Xbox One X. Rockstar's current platform information does not list Xbox One or PlayStation 4.
Rockstar has also not announced a PC release date. A future PC version may be widely anticipated because of Rockstar's history with earlier Grand Theft Auto games, but it should not be treated as confirmed until the company announces one.

GTA VI pricing, editions and pre-loading
Take-Two announced in June 2026 that the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto VI will launch for $79.99 in the United States, while the digital Ultimate Edition will cost $99.99. Regional pricing can differ.
Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026. According to Take-Two's official announcement, players who pre-order a digital version will be able to begin pre-loading on November 12, one week before launch.
One unusual detail is the physical release. Rockstar says the boxed standard edition contains a digital download code rather than a game disc. Those physical packages are scheduled to become available beginning November 12 so buyers can redeem the code and pre-load the game before November 19.
Where does GTA VI take place?
Grand Theft Auto VI returns to Vice City, Rockstar's fictional version of Miami, but the game's setting extends beyond the city into the broader fictional state of Leonida, which draws heavily from Florida.
Rockstar's official GTA VI website centers the story on Jason and Lucia. The pair become caught in a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida after a seemingly straightforward job goes wrong, forcing them to depend on each other to survive.
Rockstar released the game's second trailer on May 6, 2025, expanding on the characters, locations and modern-day Vice City setting first shown in the original reveal.
The long wait after GTA V
The anticipation around GTA VI is partly explained by the extraordinary gap between numbered releases. Grand Theft Auto V originally launched in September 2013, meaning GTA VI's November 2026 arrival comes more than 13 years later.
During that period, Rockstar continued supporting Grand Theft Auto Online and released GTA V across multiple console generations and PC, while the wider franchise remained one of Take-Two's most commercially important properties.
The first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, released in December 2023, demonstrated the scale of that pent-up interest. Forbes reported that the 90-second reveal surpassed 93 million YouTube views during its first 24 hours and set records for a trailer launch on the platform.
What is confirmed before launch?
The important details are now much clearer than they were when GTA VI was still targeting 2025. Rockstar currently lists November 19, 2026 as the launch date, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the confirmed platforms, and Vice City and the wider state of Leonida as the setting.
Pre-orders are already available, pre-loading begins November 12, and Rockstar continues publishing official footage and information ahead of release. A PC launch date, however, remains unannounced, so claims about when a PC version will arrive are still speculation rather than confirmed information.
