Rio de Janeiro — On Tuesday, Brazil's prosecutor general revealed that previous leader Jair Bolsonaro was aware of and consented to a plot to assassinate current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, his successor, to seize power.
Following his loss in the 2022 election, prosecutor-general Paulo Gonet officially accused Bolsonaro of trying to stage a coup to retain power. Gonet claimed that the scheme also sought to assassinate the previous president's adversary, Justice Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court.
According to Gonet's investigation, "the members of the criminal organization structured at the presidential palace a plan to attack institutions, targeting the democratic order and the system of powers, which received the sinister name of 'Green and Yellow Dagger.'" "The president approved the plan after it was conceived and brought to his attention."

"The president approved the plan after it was conceived and brought to his attention."
According to Gonet, Bolsonaro and thirty-three other people took part in a plot to stay in power.
Federal Police submitted an 884-page dossier outlining the plot to Gonet last November. They claim it included pressing high military officials to support the plan, creating a decree to give the scheme a semblance of legitimacy, instigating a disturbance in the capital, and methodically fostering public mistrust of the democratic process.
After reviewing the charges, the Supreme Court will decide whether to allow Bolsonaro to go to trial.
The far-right leader denies any misconduct. Earlier on Tuesday, while visiting the Senate in Brasilia, Bolsonaro told reporters, "I have no concerns about the accusations, zero."
By chance, have you seen the coup decree? You haven't. I haven't either," he continued.
A request for a response from Bolsonaro's attorney was not immediately answered.

The Republic's then-president and his vice-presidential candidate served as the organization's leaders. They attempted to stop the implementation of the results of the 2022 presidential elections alongside other individuals, including civilians and military personnel, according to the statement.
